Fault Lines

Poetry thrives on tension, like the earthquake faults that run beneath the earth. The better a poem succeeds at bringing its own pressures and forces to bear against those of its reader, the greater is the likelihood that a thoughtful, passionate interaction will occur and issue in satisfying and perhaps transforming effects in the reader.
