Echoes of Eden

Echoes of Eden

Scripture is so interconnected.

I’ve been reading, lately, about how the gospel writers crafted their narratives about Jesus.  The book I’m reading, The Gospels as Stories, makes the point that we too often minutely examine small pieces of Scripture to the detriment of seeing the broader view.

It’s like losing a sense of the forest by focusing on the trees.

Taking a step back, it’s easier to notice the themes that run under the surface of the gospels.  Not surprisingly, those themes are steeped in Old Testament imagery and theology.  In the words of The Bible Project’s commentator, Tim Mackey, they are hyperlinked.

I’m thankful today for writers and thinkers who help to open my mind to those underlying connections.  They help me to be more observant when I read Scripture.  And as you know, 8:18 is all about observation that leads to spiritual insight.

And so, I am sharing some of those insights with you.

Lord, how rich and true and consistent your word is.  Keep showing us the big picture of how your plan of salvation and redemption, your re-creating of Eden through your Kingdom, runs throughout Scripture.

Reader: what have you noticed recently that surprises you about the way the gospels are written?
