Isaiah 50:4-9 NKJV
The Lord God has given Me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him who is weary.
He awakens Me morning by morning; He awakens my ear to hear as the learned.
The Lord God has opened My ear; and I was not rebellious, nor did I turn away.
I gave My back to those who struck Me, and My cheeks to those who plucked out the beard; I did not hide My face from shame and spitting.
For the Lord God will help Me; therefore, I will not be disgraced; therefore, I have set My face like a flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.
He is near who justifies Me; who will contend with Me? Let us stand together. Who is My adversary? Let him come near Me.
Surely the Lord God will help Me; who is he who will condemn Me?
Lord Jesus Christ, Great Servant of God the Father, how true the description of the writer of Hebrews, that you “learned obedience by the things that [you] suffered” (Hebrews 5:8), suffering unspeakable torture and pain because of our willful rebellion against God.
Yet today, just as during your earthly sojourn, you speak words of comfort and hope to your weary disciples, sharing the comfort and hope that you experienced first-hand from the Father.
Teach us, Lord, to awaken each day with an “ear” to listen to the Father.
Cause us to open and receive what the Holy Spirit says through your Word every day.
Give us your grit and faithfulness, O Lord, to “run with endurance the race that is set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Help us, O Christ, to keep our focus and attention on you, the One who “endured the cross, despising the shame” (Hebrews 12:2); the One who rested in the sovereign care of our Father in Heaven.
We want to stand together with You, Lord Jesus; to draw near to You as You draw near to us (James 4:8).
Amen.
