The Goodness of God Leads to Repentance

The blood of Jesus will never lose its power

Micah 7:18-20 NKJV
Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. You will give truth to Jacob and mercy to Abraham, which You have sworn to our fathers from days of old.

Romans 2:4 NKJV
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?

2 Peter 3:9 NKJV
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Forgiving Father and merciful Lord,
We come today with hearts both grateful for your abundant goodness and heavy with shame for our sin.  We come, Father, to repent and seek your forgiveness and cleansing.
We acknowledge the fact that we have sinned.
We are sorrowful that we have disobeyed You.
We come confessing our sin and disobedience.
We come in shame that our sin is against You.
We are growing full of hatred of the sin that offends You.
And in coming to you, O Lord, we turn from our sins and seek the cleansing that comes through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross (1 John 1:7). We come in faith that “if we confess our sins, [You are] faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9 NKJV).
We come to you invoking the prayer of King David:
“Have mercy upon [us], O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of Your tender mercies, blot out [our] transgressions” (Psalm 51:1).
Amen.

If you have found this meditation helpful, take a moment and give thanks to God. Then share what you learned with a friend. This is how the grace of God spreads (2 Corinthians 4.15).
