A Pure Heart
Almighty God, you have taught us through your Son that love is the fulfilling of the law. Grant that we may love you with our whole heart and our neighbors as ourselves, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. (The Leonine Sacramentary)
Revelation 21:1-8 NKJV
Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also, there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God, and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
God my Father,
I yearn for the day when all things will be made new.
I long for the day when the weakness of my flesh will be replaced with the power of your resurrection.
While now “we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7), I look forward to the day when faith will be replaced by sight.
My heart’s desire is the nearness of your presence, both now and in that day when you make all things new and take away all tears, death, sorrow, and pain.
Strengthen me, O Lord, and prepare me for that day. Deliver me from my frailties and sins and empower me to overcome all evil to the end.
“I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.” Help me, O Lord!
Amen.
I WANT TO WALK AS A CHILD OF THE LIGHT
Kathleen Thomerson
I want to walk as a child of the light.
I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world.
The star of my life is Jesus.
In Him there is no darkness at all.
The night and the day are both alike.
The Lamb is the light of the city of God.
Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.
I want to see the brightness of God.
I want to look at Jesus.
Clear sun of righteousness, shine on my path,
And show me the way to the Father.
I’m looking for the coming of Christ.
I want to be with Jesus.
When we have run with patience the race,
We shall know the joy of Jesus.
