Psalm 34:4-7

February 01, 2013

I sought the LORD, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.

So true, Lord. You have delivered me from my fears and given me peace. Your rod and staff comfort me, You have set a table before me in the presence of my enemies. My cup runs over. Praise You, my loving and gracious Lord.

Psalm 34:1-3

January 31, 2013

Of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away. I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

Lord, I can barely imagine how rich it would be to have Your praises continually in my mouth, I know it would be a two-edged sword in my hands, but that state of bliss is something I long for. Lead me to the waters to drink of the richness of Your love.

Matthew 6:31-34

January 30, 2013

Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

Lord, You give me guidance for two main issues in my life: 1) Setting the proper priorities and 2) Fussing about an unknown future. Neither of Your directives is at all vague or wishy-washy, both clear and direct. The first says that I am to love the LORD my God with all my heart, soul mind and strength and love my neighbor as myself, the second tells me directly to keep my focus on the tasks and challenges of today. While that may include planning for future events, it does not include worrying about them. All things are in Your hands.

Psalm 33:20-22

January 29, 2013

Our soul waits for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in him, because we trust in his holy name. (22) Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you.

Hope, trust, believe in, commit to, faith in—all tied together. You ask me to trust You, to center all my hope in Your goodness and Your response is steadfast love. A total denial of self and a total acceptance of You. You are my help and shield, not my smartness and strength. Praise You, my Lord and Master.

Psalm 33:18-19

January 28, 2013

Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his steadfast love, that he may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.

Lord, “hope” has a weak connotation to my modern ears, ears whose understanding has been polluted by the Enlightenment's insistence on self-sufficiency. Help me to keep my heart focused on the hope that is a sure conviction that Your love is steadfast and that Your promise to never leave me nor forsake me is inviolable and unbreakable.

Psalm 119:169-176

January 27, 2013

Let my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word! Let my plea come before you; deliver me according to your word. My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes. My tongue will sing of your word, for all your commandments are right. Let your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts. I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight. Let my soul live and praise you, and let your rules help me. I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.

What a beautiful encapsulation of our relationship, Lord, my cry for understanding and succor; Your deliverance and my praise followed by an outpouring of praise and testimony. Let this always be so, that I always turn to You, both in time of need and in time of praise and thanksgiving; let there be no intervals between the times.

Psalm 33:16-17

January 26, 2013

The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.

The is no salvation in the power of man, not by his strength or by any of his agencies. I cannot be rescued by my own devising nor by the machinations of others. I am lost without You and Your grace. Praise You, my Lord and Master.

Psalm 33:13-15

January 25, 2013

The LORD looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds.

As Psalm 139 says, there is nowhere I can hide from You. One of the evidences of the transformation that You have worked in me is that I no longer want to hide from You. My heart no longer see You as my accuser but as my loving Lord and Master. My soul yearns for Your presence, my heart hungers to hear Your gentle voice say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Praise You, thank You, my transformer.

Psalm 33:10-12

January 24, 2013

The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!

Yes, Lord, Your counsel does stand forever. Unchanging, complete, suited for all generations in every nation, tribe and people. Your Word, Your Law, Your Torah is sufficient, it is the Word of Life, it is the Gift of Love. Thank You and praise You, the LORD, God Almighty.

Psalm 33:8-9

January 23, 2013

Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

The Day is coming, that glorious Day when all creation will acknowledge You as Lord and bow to You. Once again, all will be restored to that pristine state that glorifies You forever and ever. Every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Hallelujah.

Psalm 33:6-7

January 22, 2013

By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses.

Let it be and there was—the broad expanses of the heavens and all the starry host. Let it be and there was—the waters in their proper place and the dry land ready to receive its treasures—all created things. Power beyond comprehension, love, graced and mercy beyond understanding.

Psalm 33:4-5

January 21, 2013

For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness. He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the LORD.

Not only do the heavens display Your handiwork but all of Creation is a showcase of Your unflagging love. Not only Your love of beauty but Your love for the Creation as all aspects mesh and flow, working in harmony to produce a magnificent paean of glory and praise.
