Psalm 107:4-9

December 05, 2011

Psalm 107:4-9

Some wandered in desert wastes, finding no way to a city to dwell in; hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted within them. Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in. Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man! For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

O Lord, there are those of my family and friends who are wandering in the desert wastelands, many without knowing that a better and richer land lies within their grasp. Their hunger and thirst, their discontent and distress, their restlessness and anxiety seem a natural state, just life the way it is. Give them a taste and a foresight of what can be, awaken a desire to draw near to You and to live in that land of milk and honey, the Kingdom of God. Fill them with thankfulness and praise, with longing and hope, with joy and peace, with Your presence.

Psalm 119:65

December 04, 2011

Psalm 119:65

You have dealt well with your servant, O LORD, according to your word.

You have and You do deal well with Your servant. You teach me, You satisfy my needs, You died that I might live, You cleansed me and made me whole. You have set me on the path of righteousness, leading me beside those still waters of tranquility and peace that speak of Your great love for me. Your love for me pours out like sweet incense over my life, removing the stench of my sin and bringing me into the joy of Your presence. O Lord, thou art good!

Psalm 107:1-3

December 03, 2011

Psalm 107:1-3

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! (2) Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble (3) and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

Thank You for reconciling me to Yourself. Praise You for the grace, mercy, love, and sacrifice that is displayed in that reconciliation. I have been gathered into Your flock, grafted into Your people, and named as Your child. Your goodness knows no bounds.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

December 02, 2011

2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. (18) All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; (19) that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. (20) Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. (21) For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

What a magnificent Passage to be the beginning on the first day of my new life with a re-regulated heart, one which is beating as it should. Praise You, Lord.

Now, lead me in using this power and energy for Your Kingdom, that I will answer my calling to be an ambassador of reconciliation.

Psalm 106:44-48

December 01, 2011

Psalm 106:44-48

Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress, when he heard their cry. For their sake he remembered his covenant, and relented according to the abundance of his steadfast love. He caused them to be pitied by all those who held them captive. Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise. Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting! And let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the LORD!

Lord, that Your church would hear Your voice and turn to You in their hour of distress; that the church would bow their knee and repent of of the chasing after false gods; that we lift up our voices and cry out to You, acknowledging our sin and seeking Your face once again. Lord, lead us into repentance.

Psalm 106:40-43

November 30, 2011

Psalm 106:40-43

Then the anger of the LORD was kindled against his people, and he abhorred his heritage; he gave them into the hand of the nations, so that those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their power. Many times he delivered them, but they were rebellious in their purposes and were brought low through their iniquity.

Lord, You have stayed Your hand and delivered me from the punishment that was so rightly mine, now You are delivering me from the consequences of that sin and desertion of You. Continue to use me to carry the word of release to Your church, to Your people to restore Your Bride to its intended glory.

Psalm 106:34-39

November 29, 2011

Psalm 106:34-39

They did not destroy the peoples, as the LORD commanded them, but they mixed with the nations and learned to do as they did. They served their idols, which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons; they poured out innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood. Thus they became unclean by their acts, and played the whore in their deeds.

Lord, reveal to me those idols of the world that I have accepted as my own and which have ensnared me. Where have I deserted Your word to follow after foreign gods and sacrificed my family to them? Lord, I repent, heal me and direct me to walk according to Your word, use me as an example of Your love and mercy, teach me to live for Your name's sake.

Psalm 106:32-33

November 28, 2011

Psalm 106:32-33

They angered him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account, for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke rashly with his lips.

Lord, I grumble and complain when the waters are bitter rather than coming to You in supplication and thanksgiving. Teach me to call upon You for relief and to carry the message of Your faithfulness to Your people. Let me not provoke those who love me into sin as the people of Israel did to Moses. Help me, Lord.

Psalm 119:62

November 27, 2011

Psalm 119:62

At midnight I rise to praise you, because of your righteous rules.

Lord, this is speaking to me of my need to be more intentional in praising You and reflecting on Your word throughout the day. Not just in my meditation times. Help me, Holy Spirit.

Psalm 106:28-31

November 26, 2011

Psalm 106:28-31

Then they yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor, and ate sacrifices offered to the dead; they provoked the LORD to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them. Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stayed. And that was counted to him as righteousness from generation to generation forever.

Lord, the art of sophistry is one of my leading talents and I am my best admirer of the art! It is no problem for me to convince myself that some worldly activity, some worship of a foreign god, is something that really pleases You. And I am wrong. I need a Phinehas in my life.

Psalm 106:24-27

November 25, 2011

Psalm 106:24-27

Then they despised the pleasant land, having no faith in his promise. They murmured in their tents, and did not obey the voice of the LORD. Therefore he raised his hand and swore to them that he would make them fall in the wilderness, and would make their offspring fall among the nations, scattering them among the lands.

Lord, how often do I despise and/or ignore Your promise to supply my every need? All You ask is that I seek You and Your Kingdom first; that there is no other priority in my life that takes precedence over You—and I am bound and determined that I need to set You aside while I fix my problems. Will I ever learn?

Mid-day: 119:33-40

Evening: Psalm 46

Psalm 106:19-23

November 24, 2011

Psalm 106:19-23

They made a calf in Horeb and worshiped a metal image. They exchanged the glory of God for the image of an ox that eats grass. They forgot God, their Savior, who had done great things in Egypt, wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea. Therefore he said he would destroy them-- had not Moses, his chosen one, stood in the breach before him, to turn away his wrath from destroying them.

How can I forget You and substitute an image of a created thing for the glory of the Creator? How can I worship the fruit of my hands rather than the One who formed those hands? How can I praise evil and turn my back on the One who gave His life to free me from the slavery of evil? Lord, I can only avoid these traps through the power of the Holy Spirit; praise You, my Lord.
