Doorways to Prayer: Our Righteousness

Our righteousness is Jesus.

Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; Philippians 3.9

We noted in the previous column that Christ lived out a life of righteousness. Thus, we have the embodiment of love, grace, and righteousness. But we also believe that we have much more, for Jesus did not become man to serve as an example to us, but to be our righteousness.

Every other religion is based upon a work – a sacrifice that we make unto God. Ultimately, the hope is that the good outweighs the bad, tipping the scales in our favor. The sacrifices of righteousness may be gifts to the poor, the first fruits of our labor, or a life of service. A multitude of options but all fraught with ambiguity, because they all leave this question unanswered, “Have I done enough?”

But the revival that we seek is based upon one thing and this most definitely – the perfect life that Christ lived for us and is giving us. “For He made Him who knew no sine to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Cor. 5.21)

In our world, jostled about by lockdowns and refugees, many have become disillusioned with their religious leaders and are seeing their religions as being what they are, bankrupt. Our man-centered efforts of righteousness are doomed to failure. In the midst of this turmoil, we have the opportunity to preach and present Christ, the Lamb who fulfilled the Law and was sacrificed for our sins – that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.

Seeking Revival
Men, we welcome you to join us via Zoom as we gather each Tuesday morning at 10:00 Eastern for 30 minutes of prayer, seeking the Lord for revival. This is one of the most exciting, most challenging, and most visionary times of my week, as men from all over the country unite their voices in seeking the Lord, using a psalm to guide our prayers. Come and pray with us. If you’d like to be added to the invitation list, just send me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
