You Might Need Revival

Isaiah's warning signs for revival.

Monday, October 19, 2015

The prophet Isaiah calls us to consider whether we need revival in our day. He supplies indicators that should cause red flags to shoot up, alerting us to the need for revival in our day.

In Isaiah Chapter 5, just before Isaiah has the wonderful vision of the Lord and His holiness, he proclaims six woes over the sins of Judah:

1)     Woe to those who join house to house, who add field to field.
2)     Woe to those who rise early in the morning, that they may run after strong drink, who tarry late into the evening as wine inflames them.
3)      Woe to those who draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, who draw sin as with cart ropes, who say: “Let him be quick, let him spread his work that we may see it.”
4)     Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.
5)     Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!
6)     Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine, and valiant men in mixing strong drink, who acquit the guilty for a bribe and deprive the innocent.

It’s not hard to see in this description of the Judah of Isaiah’s day a raft of woes appropriate for our present age.

We have passed from thrift to wealth to opulence in our homes, cars, and dress; immersed ourselves in self-indulgence; degenerated from being God-fearing, to spiritually indifferent and mockers of God. We have turned good and evil on their heads; inflated ourselves with excessive pride, and gloried and esteemed behavior that our forefathers would have scorned.

Woe to us because we are a people of unclean lips, and we live amid a generation of people of unclean lips and lives.

We need revival, brothers, and that means we need to seek the Lord for revival, for only He can bring it to pass.
