An Eye to the Promises

We all need to be focused on the same goal.

His divine power has given to us all things that pertainto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1.3, 4

1 Clement 34
Clement of Rome (fl. ca 90-100 AD)
“And let us therefore, conscientiously gathering together in harmony, cry to Him earnestly, as with one mouth, that we may be made partakers of His great and glorious promises. For [the Scripture] saith, ‘Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which He hath prepared for them that wait on Him.’”

This is skilled pastoral counsel: engage each member at the point of his or her duty, then point to the far horizon of what God promises, if we are faithful to His will. Then call the people of God to come together in prayer, to seek the promises of God for revival, renewal, and awakening. Clement held out the precious and very great promises of God to motivate all the good works of the Corinthians. He urged them to unite “as with one mouth” in a common resolve to seek the Lord’s promises and the Lord’s will. Such united efforts at prayer can bring revival, as the history of revivals makes clear. The only option Clement left anyone in the churches at Corinth was, in effect, to choose their own will and their best hopes, rather than the will and blessings of God.

Do the promises of God feature in the preaching and teaching of your church? Which promises? Paul said (Romans 4) that the promises made to Abraham are for all believers. How well do you know, and how fervently do you seek these promises? Do you lead your people together in prayer for revival, renewal, and awakening?

Men in the Gap for Prayer

The Lord came seeking men who would stand in the gap in prayer, so as to hold back His hand of judgment. He found none, and Nebuchadnezzar was the result. He’s seeking men to stand in the gap today. Are you one of them? What about the men in your church? Download our free PDF, Men of the Church: A Solemn Call, and ask the Lord what you can do to shore up the walls of His City before it’s too late. Watch this brief video explaining our Men at Prayer movement, and the booklet, If Men Will Pray, and how you can use it to enlist and equip men for a more consistent and fruitful life of prayer.

Your prayers and gifts make this ministry possible. Please seek the Lord in prayer about sharing with us at The Fellowship of Ailbe. You can use the Contribute button at the website, or send your gift to The Fellowship of Ailbe, 19 Tyler Drive, Essex Junction, VT 05452.
