Rooted in Christ

Psalter Daily Prayer Guide Week 1/Day 1

Read Psalm 1

"The LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1:6, ESV)

Drawing Near

Righteous Lord, I praise you for revealing yourself through your law. You are a holy God in whom no iniquity dwells, flawless in your being, perfect in all your ways, judge of all men. I thank you that you have given your precepts by which I might know the difference between right and wrong. Yet I examine myself in the mirror of those decrees and I am constrained to count myself among the wicked that you will drive away and who will not stand in the congregation of the righteous. However, by your mercy and grace I come before you not boasting of my own righteousness or of any good that I think dwells within me that would commend me to you. I come in the name of Jesus Christ, the Son of your love, whom you gave that by faith in him I might not perish but have everlasting life, clothed in his righteousness. He is “Blessed Man” who did not walk in the counsel of the wicked, but who delighted himself in your law, yet underwent the judgment of the lawbreaker. In Christ I stand.

Reaching Out

I pray for those in my life-spheres you have laid upon my heart. Help me to witness by my life that conforms to the contours of your law and by my word that points them to Jesus Christ. I ask that your Spirit would convict them of sin, righteousness and judgment, and of your provision for each of these in your Son, who bears the guilt of sin, who bestows a righteousness unmerited by them, and who bore your wrath and punishment of lawbreakers on Calvary’s cross.  Grant them a profound awareness that you are the judge of all the earth and that you will stand on the earth. Use me, O Lord, to reach them with words of freedom and life.

Enemy Profile

Righteous Father, protect me from succumbing to the accusations of my enemy the devil that are groundless in Christ, who paid the debt of all my sin. Strengthen me in knowing that my sin is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more. Thwart the efforts of the enemy to deceive those I seek to reach for Christ that they are right with you and do not need a savior. Wake them from their sinful slumber.

Mutual Support

I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ that you would grant them grace to delight in your law, meditating on it day and night; that they would be like trees planted by streams of water. As they abide in your truth, may they abound in the fruit of righteousness, joy and peace, the fruit of your Spirit, the fruit of a lively faith, productive lives for the sake of your name and your kingdom.
