Psalter Daily Prayer Guide Week 1/Day 5

Read Psalm 5

“Give attention to the sound of my cry, my King and my God, for to you do I pray.” (Psalm 5:2, ESV)

Drawing Near

My King and my God, to you I pray. I thank you for the access I have into your presence because the curtain is torn in two, from top to bottom at your saving work through your Son, my Savior. It is in his name and through his merit that I come before you this day. You invite me to cast my cares upon you. You give attention to the sound of my cry. You know the struggles of my heart, my inclination to sin. I am prone to wander; prone to leave you the God I love. Yet, faithful Father, you promise never to leave me or forsake me.

Reaching Out

Father, forgive me for my lack of expectant prayer. Forgive me for my neglect of prayer: not pursuing you on behalf of others for the sake of Christ; not pursuing others through prayer and watching for the opportunities you give me in response. Bring those for whom I am praying to take refuge in you by faith. Let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them. Deliver them from the darkness of sin and unbelief to love your name and exult in you. May your Spirit bring them to bow the knee before Jesus Christ in whom all your promises are yes and amen.

Enemy Profile

My enemies are many, O Lord. But they are not flesh and blood. My enemies are the cosmic powers over this present darkness, the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. But you are my strength and shield. Strengthen my faith to trust and obey. Grant me grace to walk in the way of truth. For those I am praying who remain of their father the devil, open their eyes. Show them that you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. Lift their eyes to your Son, who became flesh and dwelt amongst us.

Mutual Support

O you who hear prayer, pour out on my fellow servants of the gospel a spirit of grace and supplication. Stir them to prayer—faithful, faith-filled, fervent prayer, focused on you. Lead them in the prayer of faith that knows you, trusts you, believes you, and expects you to respond to their prayers according to your purpose.
