“You shall tithe all the yield of your seed that comes from the field year by year. And before the LORD your God, in the place that he will choose, to make his name dwell there, you shall eat the tithe of your grain, of your wine, and of your oil, and the firstborn of your herd and flock, that you may learn to fear the LORD your God always.
It is not the custom that the church I attend returns a portion of my offering each Sunday morning. However, I've already deducted a significant fraction of my income and "eaten" it without acknowledging that all comes from the gracious bounty of the LORD. This passage suggests that I need to realize that the firstfruits represent a tangible gift from the LORD, God the Almighty expressed in material form. I need to celebrate the feast with Him.
Today's readings in the Psalms:
Morning: Psalm 80
Mid-day: 119:113-120
Evening: Psalm 6
