And now behold the king whom you have chosen, for whom you have asked; behold, the LORD has set a king over you. If you will fear the LORD and serve him and obey his voice and not rebel against the commandment of the LORD, and if both you and the king who reigns over you will follow the LORD your God, it will be well.
Samuel is laying out very clearly that even though Israel has rejected the kingship of the LORD, God, the Almighty, that, if they and the king continue to fear the LORD in every aspect of their lives, He will continue to bless them.
Isn't this a foreshadowing of the ongoing grace and mercy of the LORD, God, the Almighty displayed through the sacrifice of the Son of God? I am restored to communion with Him, after repenting of sin. He does not withdraw His forgiveness by my ongoing waywardness, but He can sure display his displeasure. Standby for more on this point tomorrow.
