And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. ... You shall not steal."
James 3:5-6
So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
How often is the tongue used thoughtlessly and carelessly to steal the Shalom of a community or to break the joy of a relationship? It burglarizes joy, peace, contentment, justice, and righteousness from among Your people. Teach us, Lord, to always make our tongues submissive to the oversight of the Holy Spirit.
