Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You. (Psa 119:11 NKJV)
119th Psalm, a masterpiece of poetry in the original with a beauty that leaks through and survives the harsh treatment of translation into English. Acrostic in form, it reveals in every verse the deep love and respect that the author has for the Word of the Lord. It is truly a Love Story. (Go to the Ailbe bookstore and you will be able to buy a devotional with that title based on the 119th.)
Last week Voices Together finished a 22 week series on the 119th leaving me with a desire to meet that post-Exilic scribe who crafted this masterpiece. Someday we will.
This verse has been the foundation for my study of the Word of God for over 30 years. There is no better way for me to hide His Word in my heart than to adopt a daily plan of studying the Scriptures. And the Holy Spirit is faithful in recalling that Scripture to mind when it is needed. A good concordance or search engine solves the street address problem.
Today's readings in the Psalms:
