So they answered Joshua, saying, "All that you command us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go. Just as we heeded Moses in all things, so we will heed you. Only the LORD your God be with you, as He was with Moses. Whoever rebels against your command and does not heed your words, in all that you command him, shall be put to death. Only be strong and of good courage."

The Israelites responded to Joshua's command to obey the LORD by confirming that as they had obeyed Moses, so they would obey him. And so they did including those times of muttering and complaining that they no longer had the garlic of Egypt to enjoy.

Don't we all, even today, promise and then complain. How our leaders must want to pull their hair and complain to the LORD about the ingrates that He has given them to lead.
