John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven....The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.

It is expected in many agrarian cultures that the oldest son inherited the farm, younger sons fended for themselves and daughters were expected to find husbands. John's audience would have understood and appreciated his statement. Inheriting the farm is the equivalent of being given all things. But this all things is far richer and totally inclusive.

Since then physicists have concluded that protons and electrons are made up of smaller particles which may have sub-particles.

In short, all is a very large number, beyond human comprehension.
