For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh. Psalm 90:9-14

For all our days have passed away in Your wrath; We finish our years like a sigh. The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knows the power of Your anger? For as the fear of You, so is Your wrath. So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Return, O LORD! How long? And have compassion on Your servants. Oh, satisfy us early with Your mercy, That we may rejoice and be glad all our days! Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil.

There is some very important wisdom in the ending phrase of the first paragraph, “So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.” I know how to count my days: Today is the 13th day of November in the 2021th year of my Lord. SO WHAT!

However if I look at that statement in the way I believe Moses intended; he was telling me to evaluate the potential of each day and make it count. Each day is a gift from the LORD, God, the Almighty; it is a sin to waste that gift. It must be used for His glorification. And at day's end, I must spend some time elaborating and remembering each element of the day, examining each to see how He was revealed to Betty and me, step by step throughout the day.

Sometimes, it is hidden, as in the phone call from Tony, our eldest. It took some conversation before we realized that the true purpose of the call was to tell us that they both have been diagnosed with Covid-19. Please join us in prayer for their healing and thanksgiving that they have been vaccinated.
