Psalm 4

Psalm 4, NKJV
To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Psalm of David. Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have given me relief when I was in distress. Be gracious to me and hear my prayer! O men, how long shall my honor be turned into shame? How long will you love vain words and seek after lies? Selah

But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him. Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. There are many who say, “Who will show us some good? Lift up the light of your face upon us, O LORD!” You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, me dwell in safety.

Psalm 4, JN paraphrase
LORD of my righteousness, where are You? Why are You not answering me? Is this suddenly a reversal of our former relationship? Please hear my prayer! Has my honor been turned to shame? Have You suddenly developed a love of flattery and started to chase lies?

No! You still reserve a special relationship with those who are faithful to You and Your Word. For those who maintain a faithful relationship with You and Your Word. For those who spend their nighttime hours pondering You and Your love for us. For You, O LORD, are the One, the only One who can provide safety for me.

Your guidance to me is to offer proper sacrifices to You and put my trust solidly in You. Not those charlatans begging for some “good.” LORD, but those who put their trust in You and offer sacrifices that are sweet in Your nostrils. Than, only then will I lie down in peace and sleep.

Reading

Morning Psalm 18, Noon Psalm 119:145-152, Evening Psalm 99.. If you follow this regimen, you will pray through the Psalms every 47 days or just under 8 times per year.

An alternate Reading Plan is based on 7 chapters/day from 7 sections of the Scriptures. My groupings are: Genesis-Joshua, Judges to Esther, Job to Song of Solomon, Psalms breaking 119 into convenient sets, Isaiah to Malachi, Matthew to Acts, Romans to Revelation. This plan, over a several year period will result in an average reading of the entire Bible in slightly over twice per year. I've been following this plan since 1989 and still find the mixture of Scriptures presented each day to be a delightful way to end my day. The NLB app has a scheduling tool that assists greatly in keeping track of the reading list.

Or set your own reading schedule up in convenient groupings as fits your study habits. But a daily time in the Word of the LORD is an absolute.
