Psalm 35:4-8

February 13, 2013

Let them be put to shame and dishonor who seek after my life! Let them be turned back and disappointed who devise evil against me! Let them be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away! Let their way be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them! For without cause they hid their net for me; without cause they dug a pit for my life. Let destruction come upon him when he does not know it! And let the net that he hid ensnare him; let him fall into it--to his destruction!

Lord, this passage speaks to me of the protection that I enjoy as one of Your own sheep. Your angels are set all round me to protect and to drive my enemies away. Now I must live out my calling in the confidence that You have set a hedge of protection all around me and those You have given me to shepherd.

February 12, 2013

Of David. Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me! Take hold of shield and buckler and rise for my help! Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers! Say to my soul, "I am your salvation!"

Lord, stand between me and those who oppose and attack me, all those who malign me and accuse me falsely. Give me the consolation of knowing that You are my strength--I need constant reminding.

1 Peter 1:8-9

Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, (9) obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

But I am seeing You as I study that glorious scene of the throne room and learn to enjoy all that it signifies. What anticipation to know that someday soon, I will enter into that in all its glory.

Psalm 119:9-10

February 10, 2013

How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.

Lord, I store the Word, pour it into my heart each day but without Your Holy Spirit to quicken it to me, I am clueless. And it is not that the Spirit does not speak to me, it is that I do not listen. The Word must be stored in a listening heart; if the ears of the heart are plugged with self, there is no obedience. Open the ears of my heart, Lord, open the ears of my heart.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 116

Mid-day: 119:57-64

1 Peter 1:6-7

February 09, 2013

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith--more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire--may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Isn't this a powerful concept, one that would not occur to me without the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit, that it is through the fire of trials that I learn to depend upon my precious Lord and Savior. As I learn, the result is ever increasing praise and glorifying God and His love for me.

1 Peter 1: 3-5

February 08, 2013

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God's power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

I am a new man through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Master. I am securely looking forward to that perfect and unfailing inheritance reserved for me in glory. And now, while waiting, I am guarded and protected by faith, being preserved from all harm until His coming again. Perfect.

Psalm 34:19-22

February 07, 2013

Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all. He keeps all his bones; not one of them is broken. Affliction will slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be condemned. The LORD redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned.

Another promise that You are faithful to Your own. My life in You is safe and secure from all who would attack me and seek my harm. There will be afflictions but You will support me and deliver me ; You will carry me through the storm. I am safe in Your arms, precious Lord.

Psalm 34:17-18

February 06, 2013

When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.

Yes, Lord, another one of Your precious promises to Your people. I know that You support me through all the trials and tests, that You are with me when I am faithful to Your Word, that You do not despise a contrite heart. Praise You, the Faithful One.

Psalm 34:15-16

February 05, 2013

The eyes of the LORD are toward the righteous and his ears toward their cry. The face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

Lord, this passage sums up the thought I have been wrestling with for several days--the strict dividing line between those who can look forward to the delivery of the promises and those who CANNOT. It is another statement of the "If you love Me, you will obey My commandments" principle. Those who love You enjoy the fruits of the promises, those who do not must bare the wrath of God.

Psalm 34:11-14

February 04, 2013

Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD. What man is there who desires life and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn away from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.

How do I know evil? By studying God's Law. How do I know good? By studying God's Law. How do i know peace? By studying God's Law. Your Word, O Lord, is the key to life in the Kingdom.

Psalm 119:1

February 03, 2013

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD!

I did not yesterday, I was not blameless, I acted in pride. I stole another man's self esteem, I spoke without thinking and allow my tongue to be an instrument of pain. I am weak and without redeeming qualities. I must listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit to guard my tongue, to be truly humble before You and to seek my brothers forgiveness in a spirit of contrition.

Psalm 34:8-10

February 02, 2013

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

Ah, as in Psalm 119:2-3, the blessings of the Kingdom accrue to those who seek You. It is a whole heart seeking, a hunger and thirst for You rather than for the riches of this world. O, that I may taste and see.
