2 Timothy 1:8-12

2 Timothy 1:8-12

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that Day what has been entrusted to me.

Easy words to read and hard words to live. When trouble assails and the woes mount, when strength flees and the bones turn to roiled water, does my conviction waver and flag? Guide me, Lord, to maintain that conviction that You are able to guard until that Day and that what was entrusted to me continues to be valid and must be lived.

Psalm 91:14-16

August 31, 2011

Psalm 91:14-16

"Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."

What a comforting passage for today as we face many challenges with ex-inmates, with the guardianship and her family, with the prison ministry, and with our testimony to family and friends. Help us both to be ever constant in calling to You as we face these problems and difficulties. And help us, dear Lord, to give You the glory so that all will know that You are indeed an awesome God who cares for His people.

Psalm 91:9-13

August 30, 2011

Psalm 91:9-13

Because you have made the LORD your dwelling place-- the Most High, who is my refuge—no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You will tread on the lion and the adder; the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

Lord, thank You for sending Your angels to protect Betty and our ward yesterday. They were there and you used certain individuals such as public police officers as instruments of Your protection.

And thank You that You have set an army of protection around this house and all who dwell in it. Your promises are good and sure. Praise You, Lord and Master.

Psalm 91:3-8

August 29, 2011

Psalm 91:3-8

For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.

Lord, it is easy, as we go into this task of guardianship, to be consumed with the fear of the unknown, to allow the uncertainties of future decisions to weigh heavily on the tasks of today. Help us to lean heavily on You, to seek Your guidance and wisdom each step of the way, and to give You the glory. Let us not be consumed with the consequences of the past wickedness that has created this mess but see it as an opportunity to be Your witnesses. And this goes for our work with all ex-inmates also.

Psalm 91:1-2

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. (2) I will say to the LORD, "My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

Sometimes, Lord, I have been so long in Your shadow that I do not recognize that it is a place of safety and protection and I begin to worry and fret. You are my refuge, I have no need for concern and worry, I am to press ahead in the tasks You have laid before me.

John 16:33

August 26, 2011

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Lord, there are several situations in my life now that are very perplexing. I know You have promised peace and I trust in that promise. But I need some guidance to know what to do in some of the circumstances and what to advise in others. This uncertainty is very unsettling. It is not my tribulations that are trials but those whom I love and those whom You have given into my care.

Psalm 90:13-17

August 25, 2011

Psalm 90:13-17

Return, O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! (14) Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil. Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!

Lord, this is a day that is filled with duties in the world, opportunities to work as Your ambassador in a foreign land. Bless me and guide me, let my every step, word and action be intended to bring glory to Your name and to advance the Kingdom of Heaven.

Psalm 90:7-12

August 24, 2011

Psalm 90:7-12

For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence. For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you? So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

Teach me, Lord, to number my days, to examine each one that I may spend it wisely in Your service. This is not a “whatever happens” life, but it is a life that must bring glory and honor to You in every aspect; no hidden spots, no shadows where unrevealed disobedience resides.

Psalm 90:3-6

August 23, 2011

Psalm 90:3-6

You return man to dust and say, "Return, O children of man!" For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers.

Lord, You have numbered my days; You have set my path; You have determined that I am called to serve You in a particular and unique way. May all be for the advancement of the Kingdom and for Your glory and honor.

A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

As far back as I know, the generations before me have resided in You as their dwelling place; praising You, honoring You and seeking Your wisdom and guidance. May it continue with me and through the generations to follow.
