Psalm 72:8-11

May 05, 2011

Psalm 72:8-11

May he have dominion from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth! May desert tribes bow down before him, and his enemies lick the dust! May the kings of Tarshish and of the coastlands render him tribute; may the kings of Sheba and Seba bring gifts! May all kings fall down before him, all nations serve him!

Lord, Your day is coming when all nations, kings and peoples will bow down before You. It will be the great unveiling of the Kingdom of Heaven on earth and all will celebrate Your Glory and Holiness. It will be the Day of Restoration, the Day of Judgment, the Day of the Conquering of Death, the Day of the Establishment of the Kingdom, the Day of Submission, the Day of Rejoicing, the Day of Lifting Up, the grand and final Lord's Day.

Psalm 72:1-7

May 04, 2011

Psalm 72:1-7

Of Solomon. Give the king your justice, O God, and your righteousness to the royal son! May he judge your people with righteousness, and your poor with justice! Let the mountains bear prosperity for the people, and the hills, in righteousness! May he defend the cause of the poor of the people, give deliverance to the children of the needy, and crush the oppressor! May they fear you while the sun endures, and as long as the moon, throughout all generations! May he be like rain that falls on the mown grass, like showers that water the earth! In his days may the righteous flourish, and peace abound, till the moon be no more!

It is time to pray for the leaders of this nation, this state and this village; that they would lead Godly and peaceful lives, dedicated to serving in justice according to the precepts of Your righteous laws. Lord, convict each one of the wisdom of being obedient to Your instructions, teach them that they are in these positions of authority as Your appointed agents and that Your law defines rightness, goodness and justice. But more than that, Lord, for those who do not acknowledge You as Lord, bring them to that confession and for those who have acknowledged Your Lordship, fill them with a passion to obey You in all things.

Timothy 2:1-4

May 03, 2011

Timothy 2:1-4

First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Lord, it is so easy to pray for those whose policies I agree with and so difficult for those whose policies or lifestyles offend me. But You do not allow me the freedom to chose or to insert my own value judgments. I am to pray for ALL people, ALL in high positions; I am to offer up supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for ALL. For Obama and his staff, for Leahy, for Saunders, for Welch, for Pelosi, Reid, for the supporters of Planned Parenthood, for the promoters of LBTG, for advocates of same-sex marriage, for the drug dealers, for those corporations whose business models are based on greed, for ... It is a long list, Lord, help me to be faithful to Your commandment.

Psalm 71:22-24

May 02, 2011

Psalm 71:22-24

I will also praise you with the harp for your faithfulness, O my God; I will sing praises to you with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy, when I sing praises to you; my soul also, which you have redeemed. And my tongue will talk of your righteous help all the day long, for they have been put to shame and disappointed who sought to do me hurt.

Today and every Today, my voice must be raised in the gates and in the marketplace to tell of Your great love and mercy. I must offer praise and thanksgiving continuously to You and for You. Let Your joy bubble out of me and pour over everyone whom I touch. Use me, Lord, as Your Fountain of Living Water. I am Your servant. Praise You and thank You.

Psalm 119:162

May 01, 2011

Psalm 119:162

I rejoice at your word like one who finds great spoil.

Great spoil brings to mind the booty to be garnered after a battle and this is indeed so. The battle is to transform my heart from a scene of wickedness and depravity to a garden of Your delights. The great spoil is life lived in Your presence according to Your will.

Psalm 70:17-21

April 30, 2011

Psalm 70:17-21

O God, from my youth you have taught me, and I still proclaim your wondrous deeds. So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come. Your righteousness, O God, reaches the high heavens. You who have done great things, O God, who is like you? You who have made me see many troubles and calamities will revive me again; from the depths of the earth you will bring me up again. You will increase my greatness and comfort me again.

Here I am, Lord, to do Your bidding in declaring Your might and power to the next generations. Gray hair certainly, but You have called me to be a witness to the two following generations, especially those at risk, those whom have fallen into society's disfavor. Help me to lay this out, to plan to move forward in this task, to focus on going to the Jerusalem that You have set before me. that it should be the legacy of my life in You.

Psalm 70:14-16

April 29, 2011

Psalm 70:14-16

But I will hope continually and will praise you yet more and more. My mouth will tell of your righteous acts, of your deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge. With the mighty deeds of the Lord GOD I will come; I will remind them of your righteousness, yours alone.

My hope is in You, Lord, my hope is in You and You alone! How can I boast of my own accomplishments when I have none? But I do! Lord, it is Your grace and mercy, it is Your love, it is Your wisdom and guidance, it is Your mind as the Spirit works in and through me, it is You, Lord, it is You.

Psalm 70:9-13

April 28, 2011

Psalm 70:9-13

Do not cast me off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength is spent. For my enemies speak concerning me; those who watch for my life consult together and say, "God has forsaken him; pursue and seize him, for there is none to deliver him." O God, be not far from me; O my God, make haste to help me! (13) May my accusers be put to shame and consumed; with scorn and disgrace may they be covered who seek my hurt.

Lord, it is the spirit of busyness that is compounding my life. Lots of busy things and stuff that provide excuses for not concentrating on what I know to be Your priorities. I need a reality check from the Holy Spirit to help me to learn to look at each task in its proper sequence; to be able to set aside work that is not necessary to be done at this time but is very fascinating and complete those tasks that need to be done now but may seem very mundane or less interesting.

Psalm 70:4-8

April 27, 2011

Psalm 70:4-8

Rescue me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of the unjust and cruel man. For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O LORD, from my youth. Upon you I have leaned from before my birth; you are he who took me from my mother's womb. My praise is continually of you. I have been as a portent to many, but you are my strong refuge. My mouth is filled with your praise, and with your glory all the day.

Lord, it seems that the work that needs to be finished in the few days is piling up faster than the work that is getting completed. Help me, Lord, give me guidance. Let me see what is unnecessary and unproductive. Show me where I need to be applying my efforts, where I need to focus and where need to ignore. Like that silly little song goes, I need You as my tugboat to steer me safely through all this.

Psalm 70:1-3

April 26, 2011

Psalm 70:1-3

In you, O LORD, do I take refuge; let me never be put to shame! In your righteousness deliver me and rescue me; incline your ear to me, and save me! Be to me a rock of refuge, to which I may continually come; you have given the command to save me, for you are my rock and my fortress.

I know, Lord, that You are sufficient; that You are the Rock; that You are the Fortress; that Your righteousness is able to deliver and rescue me; that You are always listening for my every plea and every thanksgiving. You are Able, the great I AM. Praise You, LORD.

Ephesians 3:14-21

April 25, 2011

Ephesians 3:14-21

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, (15) from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, (16) that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, (17) so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith--that you, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, (19) and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. (20) Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, (21) to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Lord, I have never seen this before, but this is a father's prayer for his family. Oh, that my children and grandchildren would be rooted and grounded in Your love, that they would know the expanse of that love, that they would be filled with Your fullness. And does this prayer not fall under the rubric of 'far more abundantly than all I can ask or imagine?' Can I not say, "Yes, Lord" and "Thank You, Lord" for Your mercy to my family. Praise You, Lord.

Psalm 119:153

April 24, 2011

Psalm 119:153

Look on my affliction and deliver me, for I do not forget your law.

It seems that the affliction is insensitivity to the plight of those around me. Am I so self-centered? Am I blind to the needs? Or am I not hearing those gentle nudges from the Holy Spirit to care for Your people? Help me to be transformed into Your image.
