Colossians 3:5-11

October 24, 2013

Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming. In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free; but Christ is all, and in all.

Put to death...put them all away...put on the new self. A few sentences full of intentionality and purpose. I must be determined to put away and put on—it will not happen without my participation. Not works but actively seeking the Face of God in all aspects of my life and eliminating all that is of the Evil One.

Colossians 3:1-4

October 23, 2013

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Seek the things that are above, set Your minds on things that are above—the challenge is to differentiate between things above and things that are on earth. My flesh seeks to deceive, crying out that something is so attractive it must be of God but the stench of death gives it away when I am truly seeking the things above. Guide me, Holy Spirit.

3 John 1:5-8

October 18, 2013

Beloved, it is a faithful thing you do in all your efforts for these brothers, strangers as they are, who testified to your love before the church. You will do well to send them on their journey in a manner worthy of God. For they have gone out for the sake of the name, accepting nothing from the Gentiles. Therefore we ought to support people like these, that we may be fellow workers for the truth.

We are called in this ministry to support and equip those who contend daily for the truth. To encourage those who live in incarceration that they may be truly Ambassador's of Reconciliation for Your Namesake.

Psalm 66:16-20

October 17, 2013

Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul. I cried to him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; he has attended to the voice of my prayer. (20) Blessed be God, because he has not rejected my prayer or removed his steadfast love from me!

Let me tell of the grace and mercy of God in lifting me out of the pits of sin and despair, cleansing and releasing me from addiction to sin. Let me sing His praises, let me live to honor Him. May I remember in all things, He is preeminent.

I will come into your house with burnt offerings; I will perform my vows to you, that which my lips uttered and my mouth promised when I was in trouble. I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals, with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams; I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah

Psalm 66:5-12

October 15, 2013

Come and see what God has done: he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man. He turned the sea into dry land; they passed through the river on foot. There did we rejoice in him, who rules by his might forever, whose eyes keep watch on the nations-- let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah Bless our God, O peoples; let the sound of his praise be heard, who has kept our soul among the living and has not let our feet slip. For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried. You brought us into the net; you laid a crushing burden on our backs; you let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.

Come and see what the Lord has done—Look at what He has done for me. I know what I was—I know what I am—I see what I will be. Hallelujah! A miracle of transformation from a heap of filthy rags into a child of the King. Let the sound of His praises be heard.

Psalm 66:1-4

October 14, 2013

To the choirmaster. A Song. A Psalm. Shout for joy to God, all the earth; sing the glory of his name; give to him glorious praise! Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies come cringing to you. All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name." Selah

There is no aspect of the creation, no element of its existence, no circumstance of my life that does not display your power and wisdom. All things fit together in a coherent panorama of praise to You. Do I always recognize it? No! Must I repent of my unwillingness to search for You in all things? Yes! But, Lord, I am weak and failing; it is only through the power of Your Holy Spirit that I am able to draw near to You.

Psalm 119:105-106

October 13, 2013

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to keep your righteous rules.

This adherence to Your Word and to Your righteous rules must be an absolute with Betty and I as we fulfill our role as guardians to someone who can no longer care for themselves and who has been suffering from abuse from her adult children. Without Your Word to light the way, this work will quickly slip into tyranny.
