Psalm 119:37

August 11, 2013

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.

Among those worthless things, Lord, are the many ways I find to waste time, a precious resource that You have given me. It is not only my eyes, though that is the entry point, it is my mind and my strength. Help me, Lord, to focus on Your ways and on the advancement of Your Kingdom, those tasks that You have laid out for me from before the creation of the world.

Psalm 55:12-15

August 10, 2013

For it is not an enemy who taunts me-- then I could bear it; it is not an adversary who deals insolently with me-- then I could hide from him. But it is you, a man, my equal, my companion, my familiar friend. We used to take sweet counsel together; within God's house we walked in the throng. Let death steal over them; let them go down to Sheol alive; for evil is in their dwelling place and in their heart.

Lord, I don't about friends so much as the Evil One tempts me and distracts me from life in Your Kingdom. The minutia of life can steal my attention so that when I should be praying and in communion with You, he is busy with all sorts of little distractions. He;lp me to focus on You, to learn to pray without ceasing.

Psalm 55:9-11

August 09, 2013

Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it; ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace.

In these, the last days, the Evil One is becoming frantic as he sees doom approaching and the end of his reign of terror, He is mounting fiercer but more subtle attacks on Your people. Lord, protect us and keep us from harm.

Psalm 55:4-8

August 08, 2013

My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death have fallen upon me. Fear and trembling come upon me, and horror overwhelms me. And I say, "Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest; yes, I would wander far away; I would lodge in the wilderness; Selah I would hurry to find a shelter from the raging wind and tempest."

You are my hiding place, You are my shelter when surrounded by the raging wind and tempest of the sin and evil in the culture around me. You are my shield against contamination by the arrows of temptation fired at me by the servants of the Evil One.

Evening: Psalm 72

Psalm 55:1-3

August 07, 2013

To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments. A Maskil of David. Give ear to my prayer, O God, and hide not yourself from my plea for mercy! Attend to me, and answer me; I am restless in my complaint and I moan, because of the noise of the enemy, because of the oppression of the wicked. For they drop trouble upon me, and in anger they bear a grudge against me.

It is a constant battle, Lord, against the distractions of the world and the lusts of the old man. It is only through the strength that You provide, the gentle guidance of the Holy Spirit, Your firm hand of loving discipline and the instruction of Your Word.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:73-80

Evening: Psalm 71

I Peter 5:6-7

August 06, 2013

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Is not the act of humbling myself an act of contrition? Does not this passage reflect the truth and power of Psalms 51:17? “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” Is it not true that when I come to God, broken and weak, that He takes all those anxieties and worries that are pressing me down and takes the burden upon Himself? Of course it is true. Hallelujah

Philippians 4:6-7

August 05, 2013

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Slowly, slowly, slowly learning to turn everything, all things, withholding nothing, over to You. That peace that guards my heart and mind is so comforting, so complete, such a sweet spot, why is it such a struggle to be willing to enter in?

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:57-64

Psalm 119:152

August 10, 2013

Long have I known from your testimonies that you have founded them forever.

All creation exists within the framework of Your Law. Man talks about the law of gravity but has no understanding that gravity is but a facet, a physical revelation, of the beauty of the Law of God.

Psalm 119:151

August 09, 2013

But you are near, O LORD, and all your commandments are true.

The Kingdom of Heaven is a place of harmony where all works in unison to glorify the LORD, God Almighty. It is at hand and immediately available to all who swear an oath of obedience.

Psalm 119:150

August 08, 2013

They draw near who persecute me with evil purpose; they are far from your law.

Lord, keep me from the sin of distrust. Keep me focused on Your word and trusting You in all things. Forgive me for not completely trusting You and Your Word, for insisting on “dipping my toe in the water” to test the temperature. When will I learn to dive in and find that the water is very swim-able as You have promised.

Psalm 119:148, 149

August 07, 2013

My eyes are awake before the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promise.

Lord, that this were true. I fail when awake during the night and am anxious to get back to sleep. Help me, Lord, to remember to ask You who and what I am to be praying for, to seek Your guidance in using that time for Your Kingdom.

Hear my voice according to your steadfast love; O LORD, according to your justice give me life.

If You love never fails, and it does not; if Your justice is perfect, and it is, then I have no reason not to accept the life You give me, and I do not--except for my own self-will.

Psalm 119:147

August 06, 2013

I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in your words.

There is hope in the Word. Expectation with certainty that redemption comes to those who repent. A new Day is dawning, the new Heaven and the new Earth, all things are to be made new. Hallelujah and maranatha.
