Psalm 119:139, 140

July 31, 2013

My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words.

Lord, You have sent me to minster to those who not only forget Your Word but deliberately disobey. Help me to maintain my zeal in the face of discouragement, to be faithful to you and to Your Word. Give me strength.

Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it.

I am learning, Lord, learning more and more each day to trust You and to rely on Your promises. A slow and difficult process as the old man writhes and fights oblivion.

Psalm 119:138

July 30, 2013

You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness and in all faithfulness.

Total consistency, total cohesion, total coherence, total consonance, total compatibility, total compassion, total congruency; the list of characteristics goes on and on.

Psalm 119:137

July 29, 2013

Righteous are you, O LORD, and right are your rules.

You are the definition of righteousness, the tertium quid against which all other claims to righteousness must be measured. Your Word is the record that contains the complete statement of Your Goodness and Righteousness.

Righteous are you, O LORD, and right are your rules. You have appointed your testimonies in righteousness and in all faithfulness. My zeal consumes me, because my foes forget your words. Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it. I am small and despised, yet I do not forget your precepts. Your righteousness is righteous forever, and your law is true. Trouble and anguish have found me out, but your commandments are my delight. Your testimonies are righteous forever; give me understanding that I may live.

Again, Lord, I am reminded of the consistency of Your Law. Like a beautiful mosaic fits together, tile by tile to present a magnificent picture, so your Law, word by word builds a consistent panorama of life lived according to the Kingdom of God. And then, You have provided the gift of the Holy Spirit to guide me in that life. It is not only consistent but complete.

Psalm 119:18

July 28, 2013

Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.

Lord, I know that I have not exhausted all the gold hidden in the rich mine of Your Law, Your Word. Open the eyes of my heart to absorb this treasure and to make it fully my own. Help me to realize the beauty of Your commandments as I growing in my understanding of their application to my life.

Psalm 53:2-3

July 27, 2013

God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one.

All mankind is corrupt in God's eyes and fails the test of God's Law. We have no recourse within ourselves and can only turn to God in repentance seeking His mercy and thanking and praising Him for His grace.

Psalm 53:1

July 26, 2013

To the choirmaster: according to Mahalath. A Maskil of David. The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.

Lord, I pray for those fools who refuse to see that which You have made plain for every man to see. Their blindness can only be through choice, through a conscious refusal to recognize what is before their very eyes. There is a God, a LORD, God Almighty whose power and might are demonstrated continuously before them. Heal their blindness, Lord.

Matthew 5:11-12,16

July 25, 2013

"Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. ... In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

One of the principal ways of demonstrating the power of the Kingdom is through my reaction to grief, persecution, turmoil, challenges, problems, all those challenges of life. Each one presents an opportunity to display the peace that lies within me, to demonstrate how trust in Your Goodness changes life's patterns.

Psalm 52:8-9

July 24, 2013

But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God. I trust in the steadfast love of God forever and ever. I will thank you forever, because you have done it. I will wait for your name, for it is good, in the presence of the godly.

Steadfast—unswerving, staunch, unshakable, unfaltering, unbendable, stiff, steady, firm, unwavering. What a powerful list of synonyms. Even stiff which first brings to mind someone who is distant and cold, but this is not true of my father. It implies that He is outside and above all the influences that cause me to waver and be double-minded.

Psalm 52:5-7

July 23, 2013

But God will break you down forever; he will snatch and tear you from your tent; he will uproot you from the land of the living. Selah The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying, "See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!"

Those who know You, know that I cannot trust in my own strength or in the strength of horses and laugh at my feeble attempts to be my own god. You are my strength and refuge, You are the One who supplies all my needs and covers me in the arms of love. You are my Lord and Master.

Psalm 52:1-4

July 22, 2013

To the choirmaster. A Maskil of David, when Doeg, the Edomite, came and told Saul, "David has come to the house of Ahimelech." Why do you boast of evil, O mighty man? The steadfast love of God endures all the day. Your tongue plots destruction, like a sharp razor, you worker of deceit. You love evil more than good, and lying more than speaking what is right. Selah You love all words that devour, O deceitful tongue.

How much of this evil and deceitfulness and lying is still evident in my life? Rip it out of me, Lord. Send Your Holy Spirit to convict me and transform me. It is through Your wounds that I am healed.

Morning: Psalm 130

Psalm119:136

July 27, 2013

My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.

How can they refuse the offer of life in the Kingdom? A life in accordance with Your divine plan? A life of peace, righteousness and joy as opposed to a life of anxiety, oppression and depression? Only because they have been deluded by the father of lies into believing that they can be as gods knowing good and evil. The Lie!
