One Step at a Time

The Christian life is a walk, not a leap.

Psalms 37.23, 24

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the LORD upholds him with His hand.

It is helpful to think of our lives in small steps. Though the backdrop and framework of our lives is large and grand - the Kingdom of God - and we must ever strive to see this glorious landscape with increasing fullness, yet our lives are lived a moment at a time, one small thing after another.

We must see large but live small, trusting the Lord to guide our every next step, and counting on Him and His mercy to catch and right us when we stumble or fall. Living this way makes all of life of eternal significance, and every moment an opportunity for glorifying the Lord.

Thinking this way encourages prayer without ceasing and gratitude for every small step of progress in the Lord. It also encourages us to seek the glory of the Lord in all the minutiae and details of life, so that His beauty, goodness, and truth illuminate our lives through all our words and deeds.

Look to the Lord to order your steps and to be present with you in power to help you walk in His Spirit and follow Jesus wherever He leads.
