Sunday Morning Devotional: Week 25
Thank you for joining me today as we reflect on one of the Church’s most enduring hymns of praise and testimony. May your heart be stirred to worship and your faith deepened as we explore the richness of God’s redeeming grace.
Opening Prayer
O Lord our God, we come before you with hearts full of awe and gratitude. As we reflect on the power of your creation, the depth of your mercy, and the promise of your return, we are moved to worship. Teach us to see your greatness in the stars above and in the cross of Christ. Let our souls sing your praise with joy and adoration. May this time of reflection draw us closer to you and deepen our trust in your unchanging greatness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
How Great Thou Art
By Carl Boberg (Translated by Stuart K. Hine)
O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
consider all the works thy hands hath made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed;Refrain:
Then sings my soul, my Savior-God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior-God, to thee:
How great thou art! How great thou art! When through the woods and forest glades I wander,
and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees;
when I look down from lofty mountain grandeur
and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; [Refrain]And when I think that God, his Son not sparing,
sent him to die, I scarce can take it in,
that on the cross my burden gladly bearing
he bled and died to take away my sin; [Refrain]When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration
and there proclaim: “My God, how great thou art!” [Refrain]

God of glory, we praise you for your greatness. You created the universe, and you sustain it with your word. We thank you most of all for Jesus, whom you did not spare, but sent to bear our sin. We can hardly grasp the depth of such love. Thank you for the hope we have in your return. May our lives be full of songs of praise, and may our hearts bow in humble adoration.
