Gift of the Kingdom

What is the Kingdom of God? What is it for? What is our role in it? Today’s reading takes us to the place where we can begin to answer these questions. Our readings in this series are from the book, What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth?, today from pages 17 and 18:

Thus, Jesus in His sovereignty is sui
generis. There is none like Him. Above
all powers and things, both of this world and of
the world to come, He rules eternally.

And all who know Him, all who look with love
to Him, and seek His righteousness, His peace,
His joy – all who in Him seek to increase –
know happiness and purpose far above

the rest of men, because they do not cease
to seek the glory in Christ Jesus’ face,
and daily to advance in truth and grace,
that they might serve Him in each niche and crease

of their own calling, their appointed place.
For Christ the King has freely given to
us His eternal Kingdom. And we do
not shrink from this high calling, but embrace

it wholly. Every moment we pursue
the Kingdom and the righteousness of God,
and follow Him Who came to earth and trod
the same ground we do. He makes all things new

in us, and through us, through our daily plod
and prayers, He brings His Kingdom more and more
to earth – more than it ever was before
He rose on high and took His seat with God.

We are ambassadors for Christ; therefore,
He sends us His creation to restore.

Questions for Reflection or Discussion

  1. How would you explain the Kingdom of God to a new believer? How about to a non-Christian friend?

2. What does it mean for you to embrace God’s calling to His Kingdom and glory?

We live in a Kingdom not-of-this-world, even while we are very much active in the world of things we see. Surely our being Kingdom citizens should make a difference. Our book, What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth?, can help equip you for a greater measure of Kingdom living. Order your copy either in book form or as a free PDF by going to The Ailbe Bookstore. Forward today’s podcast to a friend and invite them to read and study with you as you discover the important implications of Jesus’ reign at the Father’s right hand.
