Revealed in Glimpses

Our readings in this series are from the book, What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth? Paul wrote that we should set our minds on Christ in heavenly places, ruling in glory. Do we do that? Or are we just waiting around for that great coming day? Here is a brief excerpt from the Introduction on pages 9 and 10:

I have no doubt that most of us who claim
belief in Jesus Christ are well aware
that He ascended into glory; there,
at God’s right hand enthroned, He bears the Name

above all names, and saints below make prayer
and supplication to Him, as we should.
We know He watches over us for good,
and some among us just might even dare

to contemplate Him in His glory, could
we find the time to do so. For we see,
revealed in glimpses, Jesus’ majesty
and splendor, which, when rightly understood,

enthrall us for a few brief moments. We
look forward to the day, we hope not long
from now, when we will see His holy, strong,
and loving face in person, and will be

made like Him. Then the everlasting song
of praise will be our constant chorus, and
we’ll have our habitation in a land
where tears exist no more, and all that’s wrong

about our lives will be perfected and
made right forever.

Questions for Reflection or Discussion

  1. How would you help a Christian friend begin to “contemplate” Jesus in His glory?

2. How would you describe the glory of God that we can see in the face of Jesus (2 Cor. 4.6)?

We need to face the facts: Either we can see Jesus, seated in glory, in His beauty, majesty, goodness, might, authority, power, and radiance, or we can’t. Or don’t. Or won’t. We can help here, whatever your situation. What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth? intends to pull back the veil that separates us from the unseen realm, to give us glimpse of what we are to become. Seeing Jesus as we should can enrich and enlarge our faith to give us more confidence, courage, creativity, and consistency in following Jesus. So it’s important we get this right.
