The more we know Jesus, the more we become like Him, thinking like Him, desiring what He desires, and living each day as if it were He, not we, in these bones and flesh. Our readings are from the book, To Know Him. Here is a brief excerpt from page 17:
Thus, glory-bathed, free from all doubt and dread,
alert to every snare of self and sin,
His presence vibrant, pulsing deep within
our being, and opening the spigot of
His self-denying sacrifice and love,
we go in Him, to walk the waves and shed
the filthy rags we wore when we were dead
in trespasses and sin, so that the life
of Jesus in us fits us for the strife
of each new day, and brings to light in all
our words and deeds, this One on Whom we call
for power to love our neighbor. He will be
there as we need Him, and we’ll know that we
most surely know Him as He works within
and through us, overcoming self and sin,
to show Himself into our world, a light
in darkness, hope amid despair, the right
next step for every step, that we may be
like Him, and know Him with us, full and free.
For reflection or discussion
1. What does it mean to be “glory-bathed”? How does that relate to know Jesus? Can we become even more “glory-bathed”?
2. What does Jesus have to overcome in you before you can show more of Him to your world?
Knowing Jesus and knowing about Him are not the same. Share today’s podcast with a friend and talk about this matter. Which is most true about you—knowing about Jesus or knowing Him?
