Ultimately, Jesus is working to fill the world with Himself, starting with you and me, then working out from there into our personal spheres of influence. Our readings in this series are from the book What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth? And this excerpt from pages 27 and 28 explains how Jesus is working to fill all things:
And one commanding purpose, one intent
defines, directs, and drives the work that He
pursues on earth through us: That we might see
Him filling every place where we are sent
and everywhere we serve Him, and that we
might be, in every place, the fragrance of
His Presence, the aroma of His love,
His letter to a world of misery,
confusion, disappointment far above
what anyone should ever know, and sin
and death and hopelessness. The world is thin
on answers to its questions; let us prove
to every skeptic’s scorn, each fool’s chagrin,
and every doubter’s hesitance, that we
have found in Jesus all we need; that He
explains the world, and He has borne its sin
in His own body on that wretched tree;
and that He reigns, and He is coming soon
to judge the world in truth, to bring the boon
of everlasting life, that we might be
His people evermore. Then, neither moon
nor sun will light the world, but Jesus, by
His beauty, truth, and goodness will light sky
and earth with glory, morning, evening, noon,
and always. And what now is bye-and-bye
will then wipe every tear from every eye.
