News flash: The vast cosmos doesn’t operate on its own power or according to some physical laws. It’s Jesus, everywhere and all the time. Our readings in this series are from the book, What in Heaven Is Jesus Doing on Earth? Here is a brief excerpt from pages 19 and 20:
For everything depends on Jesus, Who
upholds it all and in Whom everything
consists. The farthest galaxies that ring
the night sky are instructed what to do
by Him Who made them. And the birds that sing,
the waters that give life, all creatures great
and small, exist, cohere, and daily wait
on Him for their provision. And they bring
Him praise, for all the creatures demonstrate
His wisdom, power, and goodness. Calvin said
that Jesus, by the nodding of His head,
keeps all the cosmos in its present state
and operating as He wills. Instead
of chance, the Word of God rules all that is;
He made it and He keeps it. All is His,
and by it He provides our daily bread
and fills our lives with goodness. Knowing this,
how eager we should be to learn all that
we can about this world. We should be at
all times engaged, enthralled, pursuing His
good pleasure and His glory in all that
He daily shows us, everything He lays
before us in creation all the days
He gives us here. For since our Savior sat
down on His throne, the cosmos that obeys
His Word gives Him – as we should – constant praise.
