1 Corinthians 7:24-25

John Nunnikhoven

So, brothers, in whatever condition each was called, there let him remain with God. Now concerning the betrothed, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord's mercy is trustworthy.

Paul is examining, in vv 17-40, various situations where we do not have a direct word from the Lord but can, through His mercy, offer advice that is consistent with the Word. As we mature in our faith, we mature in our ability to recognize the good, acceptable and perfect will of God. (Rom. 12:2) Always keeping in mind that we need to be before the Lord in all situations. It may be an arrow prayer lifted up before responding, but frequently requires the humility to say, "Let me get back to you, I need guidance from the Holy Spirit before I answer your question."
