1 Peter 4:12-14

John Nunnikhoven

Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.

I keep thinking of the apostles in Acts 5:41-42 Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.

Am I willing to suffer for His namesake? Do I recognize the blessing when I am reviled for my faith? Often the answer is “Maybe” Lord, forgive me for those instances when I am guilty of refusing the blessing.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 67

Mid-day: 119:105-112

Evening: Psalm 143
