This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith,
Paul is bringing me back to his charge to Timothy (and me) in v. 5 to serve in the love that can only issue from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. If I wander from this, I will wander into false and vain teachings, wasting my time in idle and ungodly discussions.
