2 Kings 18:4-5

John Nunnikhoven

He removed the high places and broke the pillars and cut down the Asherah. And he broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, for until those days the people of Israel had made offerings to it (it was called Nehushtan). He trusted in the LORD, the God of Israel, so that there was none like him among all the kings of Judah after him, nor among those who were before him.

What are the church's Asherah? Its Nehushtan? What other gods have we placed before our trust in the LORD, God the Almighty? Where are we using the LORD's Name in vain? What other idols are we worshiping? How are we desecrating the Sabbath? Let alone ignoring the following six.

Each one of us is called to be a Hezekiah. First of all to live a life of faith and trust, then to speak out in love and compassion against all evidence of disobedience within our ranks.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 123

Mid-day: 119:81-88

Evening: Psalm 48
