Deuteronomy 25:17-18

John Nunnikhoven

Remember what Amalek (see Exodus 17:-16) did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God.

The referenced story is a powerful example of the impact of the fear of the LORD in v11. As Moses held up his hands to indicate trust in the LORD, Israel prevailed, when he lowered his hands, no longer calling on the LORD, God, the Almighty, Amalek prevailed.

Shouldn't I learn from this that a primary focus of a life characterized by prayer without ceasing, should be thanksgiving to the Lord knowing that all thingswork together for my good? There are Amaleks in my life.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 86

Mid-day: 119:161-168

Evening: Psalm 12
