Ephesians 4:1-3

John Nunnikhoven

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

I understand fairly well what Paul meant about maintaining the unity of the Spirit, but eagerly? Eagerly is something else. That may mean that I have to exhibit humility or gentleness or patience or sacrificial love. Heaven forbid! No, Heaven directs that my precious ego be subservient to all others; that a primary goal is to maintain the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. Never mind the cost to my pride.

Today's readings in the Psalms:
