Galatians 5:16-18

John Nunnikhoven

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

The image that comes to mind is that of a mountain climber attempting an unassisted climb of Half Dome without robes, pitons, carabiners and barefoot. How far would he get before the SPLAT? I cannot, not a chance, of living a life obedient to the Law of God without the constant guidance of the Holy Spirit. He is my entire set of climbing equipment, enabling me to surmount the temptations of the flesh. Thank You, Jesus, for bringing the Comforter and Helper to me.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:105-112
