Hebrews 5:8-9

John Nunnikhoven

Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him,

It is hard to grasp that Jesus had to suffer, that he had to learn obedience in the same manner that I have to learn it. I have always looked upon that prayer of agony in the Garden of Gethsemane (Luke 22:41-44) as a prayer of obedience but never considered that as a man, He had to experience the trials of learning to obey.

As the Son of God, He was always perfect but He had to become the perfect Son of Man to be the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God.

Today's readings in the Psalms:

Morning: Psalm 128

Mid-day: 119:1-8

Evening: Psalm 53
