But the LORD isthe true God; He isthe living God and the everlasting King. At His wrath the earth will tremble, And the nations will not be able to endure His indignation.
Thus you shall say to them: "The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth shall perish from the earth and from under these heavens." He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, And has stretched out the heavens at His discretion.
When He utters His voice, There isa multitude of waters in the heavens: "And He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightning for the rain, He brings the wind out of His treasuries."
Everyone is dull-hearted, without knowledge; Every metal-smith is put to shame by an image; For his molded image isfalsehood, And there isno breath in them. They arefutile, a work of errors; In the time of their punishment they shall perish.
The Portion of Jacob isnot like them, For He isthe Maker of all things,And Israel isthe tribe of His inheritance; The LORD of hosts isHis name.
An interesting observation in the underlined paragraph is that every image is a falsehood, a lie. How can man so easily fool himself into believing that something, a weak, fallible man, has fashioned with his hands, will serve to guide every aspect of his life. A chunk of wood or metal will always be a chunk of wood or metal.
But how many of “things” do I regard as having healing or saving powers but are no more than a rabbit's foot. I need to learn that the special coin in my pocket is one of the LORD's All Things but is not imbued with special powers. Those powers are reserved for the Trinity, the LORD, God, the Almighty.
