Jeremiah 26:12-13

John Nunnikhoven

Then Jeremiah spoke to all the officials and all the people, saying, "The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and this city all the words you have heard. Now therefore mend your ways and your deeds, and obey the voice of the LORD your God, and the LORD will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.

Jeremiad-a list of mournful complaints, a lamentation, a list of woes. The prophecies of Jeremiah have a place in the English language. And their purport likewise must take their place in our language and in our behavior.

It would be an interesting study to look at how often a jeremiad of Jeremiah is followed by a path to restoration. As we find here, return to a state of obedience to the Word, repent and assume again the mantle of an Ambassador of Reconciliation to lead those around us into life in the Kingdom in the here and now.
