Luke 2:25-27

John Nunnikhoven

Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law,

What an incredible revelation. A statement of fact. Simeon would not see death until he had met the LORD's Christ.

On the other hand, I believe that the Lord will return for His own in my lifetime. I wish I could state that as a revelation, but that would be incredibly presumptuous. More accurately, I should say that I hope that the Lord will return in my lifetime and I will seek to live out my life as if that were a revelation by the Holy Spirit. That needs to be accompanied by a willingness to repent when I fail.
