Psalm 135:15-18

John Nunnikhoven

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands. They have mouths, but do not speak; they have eyes, but do not see; they have ears, but do not hear, nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them become like them, so do all who trust in them.

The idols of this world are no longer figurines made of precious metals but are the symbols that indicate status or they are those addictions that provide escape from reality. Cars and careers, homes and haberdashery, drugs and drink, all serve to provide a false solace and freedom from responsibility. But without exception, they are false gods, leading their adherents into death and destruction.
