Psalm 137:1-3

John Nunnikhoven

By the waters of Babylon, there we sat down and wept, when we remembered Zion. On the willows there we hung up our lyres. For there our captors required of us songs, and our tormentors, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!”

Lord, we, Your Church, Your Bride, have turned our backs on Your Word and sought other gods. We have adopted the secular humanism of the world around us and accepted the false promises of happiness through materialism and sexual licentiousness. Our testimony is weak and blunted, we are a joke to the culture, we have lost the right to announce, “Thus saith the Lord.” How can we sing the songs of Zion? Continue to chastise us, continue to wreak havoc upon the Church until we return to You.
