Psalm 4:4-5 Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent.

John Nunnikhoven

Psalm 4:4-5

Be angry, and do not sin; ponder in your own hearts on your beds, and be silent. Selah (5) Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD.

What is it, Lord, to be angry and not sin? To ponder and be silent? Does this mean that I am looking to others for advice, counsel and sympathy when I should be in quiet meditation, pondering Your Goodness and seeking Your face? You are telling me that this is a time of solitary wrestling with You as Jacob did. That I need to seek You, stripped of all the emotional gods of pride and self-control, stripped of friends and family to support; standing before You alone, filled with contrition. Yes, Lord, yes. I understand. Let it be to Your servant as You have said.
