Psalm 59:1-2

John Nunnikhoven

To the choirmaster: according to Do Not Destroy. A Miktam of David, when Saul sent men to watch his house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise up against me; deliver me from those who work evil, and save me from bloodthirsty men.

Lord, my enemies are not men sent to kill or even harass me, but those sly minions of the Evil One: doubt, lust, greed, covetousness, jealousness, the list goes on and their names are Legion. Yet the answers are plain in Your Word: “Let the praise of God be ever in my mouth and a two-edged sword in my hands” (Psalm 149:6-paraphrased) and “I have stored Your Word in my heart that I might not sin against thee.” (Psalm 119:11). Through the power of the Holy Spirit, these statements are true and active.

Today’s readings in the Psalms:

Mid-day: 119:113-120
