Romans 1:21

John Nunnikhoven

For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

It is not too surprising that the world does not make any effort to give thanks to God, but His people?

1 Thessalonians 5:18 specifically instruct us to give thanks IN ALL(emphasis added) circumstances. Is it any wonder that our laxity results in futile thinking (worry and anxiety?) and hearts that are darkened (depressed and unjoyful?). As an indication of the importance of thanksgiving, 62 verses (ESV) instruct us to give thanks to God. And an often overlooked characteristic of our prayers is that they are to be offered with thanksgiving. (Philippians 4:6)

Maybe we need to drop all the 'gimmes' and spend our prayer time in giving thanks?????
