How can you know what mission field the Lord has assigned to you? Where He has sent you? Remember that Jesus said you are to make disciples “as you are going”. That’s a pretty good hint. Today’s excerpt from Joy to Your World! is from page 37:
“So, are we all supposed to sell all our possessions and head off to the bush, the byways, and back-woods of the world as missionaries?
“No. The good news is that we do not have to go to the fields where the harvest is plentiful. The fact is, we live in those fields every day of our lives.
“The Apostle Paul instructs us to imitate him as he imitated Jesus (1 Cor. 11.1). Paul said he had a ‘sphere which God appointed’ to him (2 Cor. 10.13-18), within which he sought to bring and proclaim the joy of the Lord Jesus. That sphere of influence was his Personal Mission Field, and you and I have a sphere just like this, a Personal Mission Field which, if we would lift up our eyes and examine it closely, we would see is ripe for sowing and harvesting with the joy of the Lord.”
For reflection or discussion
1. In your Personal Mission Field, where do you go each week? Whom do you see there?
2. Why should we think of this “sphere” as a “Personal Mission Field”?
Jesus has sent each one of us as He was sent—to bring near to our world the Kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. This is daily and ongoing work, and the Lord will bring forth fruit in it—the fruit of joy—to the extent that we are faithful in working it, bit by bit ever day.
